Musicians
| Early this year I did two musician portraits
to be used on new CD’s. Both musicians are friends who perform
at Coffee Catz in Sebastopol. They also perform in many other venues
as well. Riggy Rackin plays guitar & a beautiful custom-made English
concertina, & has an astonishing repertoire of Renaissance airs,
sea shanties, & bawdy & haunting tunes. His new CD, Somewhere
in Between will be out this fall. See www.riggy.com. Michael B. Serious
plays guitar & sings like a brilliant curmudgeon—original
songs & unique interpretations of Tom Waites, Richard Thompson,
& others. His CD will be out any day now. Michael has also used
this linocut for posters & tee-shirts. |

Chemicals
| Early this spring I was commissioned to work
up some images showing the havoc wreaked by toxic chemicals in the environment.
I started my thought process by reading Theo Colburn’s Our Stolen
Future, which ought to be required reading for every high school senior.
Here are two of the resulting seven watercolors. |

Vegetables & Fruits
| While working at Sebastopol Gallery a couple
of months ago, I became fascinated by a new painting by Robert Breyer,
called Radishes and Klee. It was a simple watercolor of a bunch of radishes
with leaves, framed by a charcoal & ochre zigzag border vaguely
reminiscent of mountains. With all due respect, I just had to try some
fruits & vegetables in borders of my own. In April & May I painted
16 or 17, including pear, yam, cherimoya, and rutabaga. I still like
Robert’s radishes the best. |
