| Wouldn’t it be wonderful
if whenever people saw the American flag, they thought of compassion,
courage, generosity, ecological healing, reverence for all life,
responsibility to future generations, wilderness, mystery &
wisdom?
Maybe whoever owns the flag owns the country. Maybe we ought to
be careful about what our flag stands for.
I’ve been painting flags to honor my country, to define my
vision of what our country might become, if we nourish the parts
we love, & maybe starve whatever is hateful. I’ve been
learning a lot about the loving parts, & renewing my hope for
the future. |
